PAC Meeting Notes

Beach Girls Rock: Leyla Chafin has coordinated this. 10 5th grade girls will attend this leadership workshop.

Literacy Month: Matt has liked the events that have occurred so far. Kristen will email teachers to ask for guest readers for next week. Rashard Wright wants to come back on Jan. 26 from 11:30-12:30 (20 minutes).

“High Fives”/The Great Kindness Challenge - SCA: The spirit day next week will be tye dye. A kindness tree will be displayed outside of the cafeteria. Students/Staff may write a “high-five” to another students/staff. Cut out hands will be available for students/staff to write an act of kindness, SCA will review the hands, then place them on the trees. Teachers asked for students to write the hands in class before turning them in.  Debra Huggins suggested for anchors on WBS to read 5ish hands on WBS daily.

After-school Academy: ILT meets on Thursday. ILT will use SOL, RI, etc. reports to identify students. ASA tutoring starts on Feb. 1. Teachers have been asked for their input on students who most need the tutoring. Look for that email to come from Michelle Rousselow. Tutors are still needed-let Michelle Rousselow know if you’re interested.

Achieve 3000 visit - (rescheduled from 1/24): March 16th. She will be here to visit classrooms, model lessons, etc. PLease let Matt or the coaches know what you’d like to discuss.

MinecraftEDU: Laura Boulier called to get a quote ($517.86). 7 teachers were interested. Tim Trask: there’s a lot of work behind the scenes and it’s similar to a digital worksheet. Matt thinks we should pilot it in a few classrooms before putting money into it. Debra Huggins suggested having Minecraft EDU as a club option.

IPT Results- form due January 20th: 4th grade analyzed the IPT results with administration and the coaches. IPT are scored within the division. The teachers, coaches, and admin will share the results with ILT.  

Friday Morning Meetings: These will continue to be on Fridays (starting Jan. 27) but will be at the end of the day. Travis will add the minutes from these meetings to the blog/newsletter.

Field Trips: Laura Boulier will send out how much PTA has allocated for each grade level.

Digital Readiness: VBCPS wants feedback  on our digital readiness for a 1:1 technology school. Matt will send out a Google Doc survey for all instructional staff. Look for that in your inbox.

BOF Collection Plan: Friday meetings will continue. There will be a K-2, 3-5 cycle. Teachers will be made aware of when to turn in their BOFs.

Starfall.com funding: $75 per class.Please let Matt know if you’d like this for your classroom.   

Staff baked potato (lunch): If you’d like a baked potato to be added back onto the staff menu please let Matt/Janet know.

Snow Make-up days: A memo has been sent out. Please let Matt/Laura know if you have questions. Teachers are required to log 14.66 hours starting now and ending by June 1.  Log your additional hours on your timesheet. Please log any additional time in 15 minute increments.

MTSS-B :
  • Site visitsWe’ve had a few site visits. They are most interested in students. A groups of MTSS-B staff will be here Feb. 27-March 3 to observe.  
  • Professional Development: Matt will send a PowerPoint to all instructional staff to watch and reflect on. This is NOT mandatory but an opportunity for instructional staff to get additional points.

APEX Fun Run
  • 2/13/17 3:10pm Cafeteria APEX team meets with staff at a staff meeting (30 minutes) to coach teachers/staff on how to be the coaches for the students, get materials needed, pass out t-shirts etc.
  • 2/14/17 1:30pm Cafeteria Pep Rally (45 minutes): Students (ID, PM K-5) are introduced to character lessons, pledging, and pledge kits. APEX will bring tunnels, sound system, etc. to get the students excited. (8:30am Pre-K AM, 9:15 Cafeteria Pre-K & AM Kindergarten, 11:45am Pre-K PM SPED meet in their classrooms)
  • 2/15-22/17 Team Days: APEX coaches do character lessons (5-6 minute videos) for 6 days to teach students to be mentally and physically strong. Coaches visit the classrooms to help students work as a team.These will be scheduled by grade level.
  • 2/23/17 RUN: Thursday of 2nd week. 2 tracks set up. 100-110 students/staff per track. Students run for 30 minutes, total of 36 laps (1 lap=1/16 of a mile) Every students gets a t-shirt and a bag. The bag is a lap counter. Volunteers mark each student’s bag as they complete a lap. Lee will work on a schedule for outside and inside.


Technology class tomorrow: At WWES after school with Jamie Frederick from 3:10-4:10.
