May Media Report

May Media Report

May 31, 2018 – VBCPS posted the Great Dreams Need Great Teachers Brandon Thompson article

Brandon Thompson is ‘by far the best teacher’ for kindergarten

I'd like to brag on my daughter’s teacher, Mr. Brandon Thompson, a kindergarten teacher at Windsor Woods Elementary School. Going into kindergarten she was hesitant of male figures that she didn't know. She first met Mr. Thompson over the summer for her kindergarten testing. When he approached her she immediately starting crying, even though I spoke with her about the possibility of the new male teacher testing her. He left the office with her in tears and came back with her smiling and at ease. From that day on she wanted him as her teacher. When her letter came assigning her to his class she was so excited.
As it turns out, it was the best thing that could have happened. Mr. Thompson, along with Mrs. Long, have taught my daughter so much over the past eight months. I've seen her grow as an individual. She's come out of her shell and she's more outgoing. He encourages her to raise her hand and participate. She's writing complete sentences and loves to read. One of the reason is because he makes learning fun for the kids. Last month they were learning about fractions. Mr. Thompson made this fun by using food to represent different fractional amounts. He is by far the best teacher that Mr. Orebaugh could have chosen to teach kindergarten this year.
Thank you for all that you do, Mr. Thompson. Your caring nature and love for our children is seen every day!
- Heather De La Cruz
Thanks to campaign sponsor, Virginia Beach Schools Federal Credit Union, Thompson received two free movie passes.

April 11, 2018 - VBSchools’ Facebook page posted the We Are VBSchools” story on Nate Allison.

Nate Allison, or Mr. Nate as his students call him, has always been passionate about helping kids discover new things, so when it came to the Windsor Woods Elementary Library, he know just what he wanted.
“I really wanted the library to be a place that was the heart of the school and where kids could just feel comfortable – in a lot of ways, as comfortable as they would be in their own living room.
Mr. Nate has had a lot of fun forging his own path in the library.
“It’s expanded to all forms of technology, whether it’s robots or virtual reality, or just exploring online resources, or even just playing with LEGOs – kids learn through exploration and play, so we foster that in the library. We just wanted it to be a place where kids wanted to be.” #NationalLibraryWeek#WeAreVBSchools Read more about our #WeAreWednesday nominee here: http://vbcpsblogs.com/WeAreVBS…/making-library-heart-school/

During the 2017-2018 school year, Anchor Schools have been using Schoology, which provides a unified access point for curriculum, digital content, assessment, and more. In partnership with Anchor Schools, school division staff has worked closely with Schoology to tailor the program to meet division needs.

This course will take you about one-hour to complete, and you do not have to complete it all at the same time. You may go back and view any or all parts of the course anytime. At the end of the course, you will be asked to answer a few short questions regarding your impressions of Schoology as well as your preference for full implementation. Please complete the Schoology Overview course and the questions, no later than March 4. Thank you in advance for your time in this important next step with Schoology implementation.

To access Schoology and this course, please do the following:

I make a Difference

I make a Difference

First, I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to my right hand gal, Mindy, for honoring me with the, “I make a Difference” recognition.   Your kind words really do mean a lot to me.   We truly do make a great team.
Today, I would like to pass this honor onto someone that not only makes a difference in the lives of our students, but also in the lives of the faculty and staff here at Windsor Woods.  This difference maker always has a smile to share, and a sincere shoulder to lean on.  This difference maker is a relationship builder, a teacher, and defines team player.  Whenever asked for help, or to participate in a school event, this difference maker does it without any question or reservations.   More importantly, he laughs at all of my corny jokes without judgement!
I thank you Christopher Backus for the impact that you are making at Windsor Woods.   The children love you and so do we.   I want you to know that you are appreciated and your hard work does not go unnoticed.

Chris Backus, You Make a Difference!
